Making The Grip (con't)
Materials are arranged
This is my preview of the appearance of the grip and reel seat, assuring that the grain of the woods are correct and everything is in the proportion desired. At this point bone was substituted for the ivory.
Material is glued with rod building epoxy and clamped on all-thread for 24 hours
At this time even I don't know for sure what the grip and reel seat will look like as the veiwing area of the wood has not yet been revealed. Excess stock of the reel seat was removed by a band saw.
Excess stock removal
The glued up blanks are transfered to turning mandrels. Using a disc and belt sander, excess stock material is removed and general shaping has taken place. This is when we have a good idea as to the appearance of the grip and reel seat.
